Fleetwood Mac’s co-founder and drummer, Mick Fleetwood, has voiced his hope for a mended relationship between former bandmates Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. In a recent interview with MOJO, Fleetwood acknowledged the longstanding emotional barriers between the two, stating, “It’s no secret, it’s no title-tattle that there is a brick wall there emotionally.” He further expressed, “I would love to see a healing between them – and that doesn’t have to take the shape of a tour, necessarily.”
The tumultuous relationship between Nicks and Buckingham dates back to their romantic involvement in the 1970s, which eventually ended but continued to influence the band’s dynamics. Buckingham’s departure from Fleetwood Mac in 2018, reportedly at Nicks’ behest, further strained their relationship.
Fleetwood’s comments come in the wake of the 2022 passing of Christine McVie, the band’s keyboardist and vocalist. Nicks has since expressed that Fleetwood Mac cannot continue without McVie, stating, “Without Christine, no can do. There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.”
Despite these challenges, Fleetwood remains optimistic about the possibility of reconciliation, emphasizing the importance of healing over the prospect of a reunion tour. The future of Fleetwood Mac remains uncertain, but Fleetwood’s sentiments highlight a desire for resolution among the band’s key members.
