In the mid-1990s, as The Offspring’s album Smash was propelling them into the limelight, the band made a surprising decision: they declined an offer to tour with the legendary Metallica. Guitarist Noodles recently shed light on this choice during an interview with Marcelo Vieira.
Noodles explained that the unexpected success of Smash caught the band off guard. They felt their live performances weren’t yet polished enough for large arena shows. “We didn’t feel like we were a professional band. We didn’t think we were good enough to go out and do that,” he admitted. Instead, The Offspring chose to perform in smaller clubs, aiming to hone their skills and grow organically. Noodles reflected, “We wanted to go out and start in small clubs and work our way up and build and become a professional band over time.”
This decision underscores the band’s commitment to their craft and their desire to connect authentically with audiences. By focusing on smaller venues, they ensured that their rise was built on a solid foundation of genuine fan engagement and performance experience.
Fast forward to today, The Offspring has released their 11th studio album, Supercharged, in October 2024. The band is set to embark on a global tour in 2025, with notable performances scheduled in Madrid and Badalona in September, accompanied by Simple Plan.
