In a recent development, three members of the pioneering British punk rock band UK Subs—bassist Alvin Gibbs, guitarist Marc Carrey, and drummer Stefan Häublein—were detained and deported upon their arrival in Los Angeles for a scheduled performance. Only the band’s frontman, Charlie Harper, was permitted entry and performed with stand-in musicians.
Gibbs recounted that after landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), he was informed of an issue with his visa and an additional unspecified concern. He speculated that his outspoken criticism of President Donald Trump and his administration might have influenced the decision, though this remains unconfirmed.
The detained members described their experience as unpleasant, involving confiscation of personal belongings and extended periods without sleep. Despite these challenges, Harper managed to perform the scheduled show in Los Angeles with substitute musicians. Gibbs expressed doubt about returning to the U.S. in the near future.
