Despite the chaos that defined the original 2017 Fyre Festival, its creator Billy McFarland insists that its infamous sequel is still very much in the works — just not as soon as initially promised.
Fyre Festival II was originally announced last year by McFarland shortly after his release from federal prison, where he served time for fraud related to the original event. The sequel was supposed to take place at the end of 2024. However, that timeline has now officially been pushed back.
“It’s Still Happening,” Says McFarland
In a new statement shared via social media, McFarland addressed fans (and skeptics) alike:
“I pushed the event back a few months to make sure we go bigger than last time.”
That statement is raising eyebrows, considering how disastrously “big” the original festival went — complete with luxury tents that were actually disaster relief shelters, stranded attendees, and zero performances.
This time around, McFarland claims things are different. He’s calling it a “pop culture and music experience,” though details about artists, venue, or logistics remain mysteriously vague. No official date has been confirmed, and no location has been revealed either. Yet, he insists it’s all still happening.
A Mysterious Countdown
Adding to the confusion, the official Fyre Festival website is currently displaying nothing more than a countdown timer and a vague message teasing what’s to come. Those hoping for concrete details have been left in the dark.
Despite this, McFarland has expressed confidence in his vision. His online following seems to include a strange mix of curious fans, hopeful attendees, and people just waiting to see if the chaos will unfold again.
A Dubious Legacy
The original Fyre Festival has gone down in history as one of the most spectacular event failures ever — spawning lawsuits, documentaries, and memes galore. For many, the idea of a sequel sounds more like satire than strategy.
Still, tickets for Fyre Festival II allegedly went on sale last year, and — astonishingly — McFarland claimed some of the early tiers sold out within days. Whether those buyers will ever attend anything at all remains the big question.
For now, all we know is that Fyre Festival II is delayed… but not dead. At least according to its ever-controversial founder.
