Drop the Star, a Seattle-Tacoma-based band, has been crafting music since 2020 and recently released their latest track, “Something to Fight For.” Frontman Johnny Reidt and guitarist Ty Max shared insights about the band’s ethos and their creative journey during an interview on Loudwire Nights on Dec. 12.
Staying True to Their Craft
In conversation with host Chuck Armstrong, Reidt emphasized the band’s commitment to authenticity. “We’re not trying to keep up with the kids,” he said. “We just want to be honest with ourselves and our instruments and do what we love. Rock music isn’t thriving commercially in Seattle, but we’re here for the passion, not the paycheck.”
Max echoed this sentiment, describing their stripped-down approach: “We’re pretty lean and mean—just four guys with loud instruments. Turn it up and let it roar.”
Collaborations with Industry Legends
Reidt and Max’s musical roots run deep, with both having shared the stage with legends like Megadeth, Pearl Jam, and Queens of the Stone Age. Their connections to industry veterans have been instrumental in shaping their journey.
Producer Brett Eliason, a longtime collaborator with Pearl Jam, has supported Reidt for years. “Every time I ask Brett to mix something, he’s always there,” Reidt shared.
Another key figure in their story is Barrett Jones, who famously produced Foo Fighters’ debut album. Jones not only mixed “Something to Fight For” but has been a steady presence in their lives. “Keeping good people in your circle reminds you of what’s truly important,” Reidt reflected.
Looking Ahead
As Drop the Star gears up for 2025, they have ambitious plans for new music, live shows, and potential tours. Reflecting on their growth, Reidt underscored their dedication to excellence. “No matter what you do—digging a ditch or making music—do it well. That’s all that matters.”
