Casey Chaos, the dynamic frontman of the alternative metal and hardcore punk band Amen, has died at the age of 59. The announcement came via the band’s official Facebook page on December 21, although the cause of death remains undisclosed.
The band’s heartfelt statement expressed their grief:
“It is with great sadness, grief, and sorrow that we confirm the passing of Casey Chaos. Everyone in the band, past and present, is devastated. Casey deeply appreciated your support and always aimed to share only completed work rather than unfinished material. We will reflect on ways to honor his genius and heart, ensuring his legacy lives on. Please share your positive memories of Casey.”
A Career of Influence
Born Karim George Chmielinski in Trenton, NY, in 1965, Chaos initially pursued a career as a professional skater before discovering hardcore punk music. His passion led to the formation of Casey and the Skate Punx, later renamed Disorderly Conduct, which released their only LP, Amen, in 1986.
By the 1990s, the band evolved into Amen, releasing four albums between 1994 and 2004 on major labels like Columbia and Roadrunner. Chaos was the group’s consistent creative force, collaborating with over a dozen musicians, including members of Godsmack, Black Veil Brides, and Sevendust.
After a hiatus in 2009, Amen reunited for Knotfest in 2014. Despite plans for a new album featuring ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, the project was never completed. Chaos also collaborated with Scars on Broadway, Emperor’s Faust, and System of a Down, co-writing their Grammy-winning track “B.Y.O.B.”
Personal Struggles
Chaos faced challenges in his personal life, including legal troubles in 2012 and 2019. Despite these difficulties, his musical impact remained undeniable.
Tributes Pour In
Fans and musicians alike have shared their memories of Chaos. Roy Mayorga of Stone Sour, Amen bassist John Fahnestock, and DJ Skum Love all praised Chaos for his raw talent and uncompromising spirit. Cleopatra Records founder Brian Perera remembered him as “an extraordinary musician who truly lived and breathed the lifestyle.”
Others, like music legend Matt Pinfield and guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite, reflected on his unique presence and the pain he endured over the years. Tributes on social media highlighted his influence on punk and metal music, celebrating his fiery performances and artistic vision.

Casey Chaos leaves behind a legacy of groundbreaking music and an enduring impact on the alternative metal and punk scenes. His electrifying stage presence and fearless creativity will continue to inspire generations of fans and musicians.
Rest in peace, Casey Chaos.
