Swedish doom metal legends Candlemass have surprised fans with the release of their new EP, Black Star. This powerful collection features three tracks, including two heavy-hitting covers paying tribute to Black Sabbath and Pentagram.
The EP, released via Napalm Records, showcases the band’s take on Black Sabbath’s “Electric Funeral” and Pentagram’s “Forever My Queen”, alongside the title track “Black Star”, which is an original Candlemass composition.
A Tribute to the Greats
The covers included in Black Star demonstrate Candlemass’ deep respect for the pioneers of doom metal. “Electric Funeral”, originally from Black Sabbath’s 1970 album Paranoid, is a classic of the genre, and Candlemass brings their own dark intensity to it. Meanwhile, “Forever My Queen”, one of Pentagram’s most iconic songs, fits perfectly within the band’s signature sound.
A Glimpse into the Future?
The original track, “Black Star”, continues Candlemass’ legacy of epic doom metal, proving that after decades in the industry, they remain masters of their craft. While the band hasn’t confirmed whether this release signals a new full-length album in the works, fans are excited to hear more.
Black Star is now available on major streaming platforms and for purchase via Napalm Records.
