Few bands in the modern extreme metal landscape hit as hard and as precisely as AngelMaker. Hailing from Northern Vancouver, this seven-piece outfit delivers a furious, focused, and violently diverse brand of deathcore that pushes the genre to its absolute limits.
Blending the crushing brutality of Floridian death metal with the icy aggression of Scandinavian black metal, AngelMaker stands alongside genre titans like The Black Dahlia Murder, Despised Icon, and Whitechapel—but always on their own terms. Their sound is sharpened with blackened thrash, power violence, and a relentless underground hardcore energy that’s impossible to ignore.
“We always strive to write music that makes people feel something emotionally intense,” says vocalist Mike Greenwood.
With dual vocalists Mike Greenwood and Casey Tyson-Pearce leading a triple-guitar onslaught from Colton Bennett, Matt Perrin, and Johnny Ciardullo, anchored by bassist Cole Rideout, AngelMaker crafts songs that are both sonically devastating and emotionally immersive.
The band’s reverence for the golden era of deathcore (2005–2010) is clear, but their execution is undeniably modern. Their lyrics explore personal struggles—fear, loss, sadness, anxiety—alongside grander, cinematic concepts, creating an intense cathartic experience for listeners.
History & Evolution
Formed by a group of teenage friends, AngelMaker has built its name through pure independence and ferocious determination.
- 2012: Their Decay EP put them on the deathcore map.
- 2015: Their debut full-length Dissentient, produced by Stephan Hawkes (Chelsea Grin, Attila), became an underground classic.
- 2016: They dropped the Unholy Alliance split with A Night In Texas, and shortly after, won a fan-voted spot on the prestigious Summer Slaughter Tour.
- 2018: Their explosive performance at Brutal Assault in Czechia lit up the deathcore community online.
- 2019: They unleashed their self-titled sophomore album AngelMaker, featuring standout tracks like “Hollow Heart,” “BLOODTHIRSTER,” and “Requiem.”
In 2021, the band returned with new material produced by Tim Creviston (Spiritbox, Misery Signals), unveiling their most confident and destructive music yet.
“We’re always pushing the boundaries of our signature sound, while staying true to the roots of classic deathcore,” Greenwood explains. “Nostalgia is such an intense emotion.”
Live & Legacy
AngelMaker has shared stages with some of the most brutal acts in the world, including Dying Fetus, The Faceless, Oceano, Slaughter To Prevail, Lorna Shore, and more. Their live shows are revered for their energy, precision, and raw emotional intensity.
As the band continues to evolve, they remain a DIY force, standing tall after a decade of relentless work and self-reliance.
