During their recent performance at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, Green Day’s frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, altered the lyrics of their song “Jesus of Suburbia” to critique Vice President JD Vance. Originally, the lyric was “Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed?” Armstrong modified it to “Am I retarded or am I just JD Vance?”
This change came shortly after a tense meeting between Vance, President Donald Trump, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Armstrong has a history of adapting lyrics to comment on political figures and events. In “American Idiot,” he has replaced “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” with “I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda,” and during a performance in South Africa, he sang “I’m not a part of an Elon agenda.”
Green Day is currently on their Saviors tour, celebrating the anniversaries of their albums “Dookie” and “American Idiot.”
