Rock legend Keith Richards, the iconic Rolling Stones guitarist, has added yet another accolade to his legendary career. On March 5, 2025, Richards received the first-ever Connecticut Governor’s Award of Excellence in a special ceremony at the Westport Library. Governor Ned Lamont presented the award, celebrating Richards’ artistic legacy and contributions to the local community.
Having called Weston, Connecticut, home for nearly four decades, Richards has become more than just a rock icon—he’s a dedicated supporter of various community initiatives. His involvement with organizations like SPHERE, which enhances opportunities for adults with disabilities, and The Prospector Theater, which provides meaningful employment through film, showcases his commitment beyond the stage.
During the ceremony, Richards, known for his quick wit and charm, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the honor. “You kind of get lost for words with something like this around your neck. All I gotta say is, I’ve been here for 40 years, and it’s been a great place for me,” he remarked.
The Governor’s Award of Excellence was created to recognize individuals who embody Connecticut’s spirit of creativity, passion, and generosity. The medallion, custom-designed by a Connecticut State Trooper, and a ribbon crafted by a local fashion designer, symbolize the deep connection between the state and those who have significantly enriched its cultural and civic life.
With a lifetime of groundbreaking music and a heart for giving back, Richards continues to leave an indelible mark—not just in rock history, but in the community he calls home.
